What WhatmyDesign Is Here to Do

WhatmyDesign is a home decor blog built around one straightforward goal: to give readers genuinely useful, accurate, and honest content about styling, decorating, and making a space feel like home. Not filler. Not recycled advice dressed up in new words. Every article on this site is meant to answer a real question, solve a real problem, or offer a perspective worth reading.

That standard shapes every decision made here, from which topics get covered to how a recommendation is worded to when an older article gets pulled back and updated.

How Every Article Comes Together

Every piece of content on WhatmyDesign follows a consistent process from start to finish. Here’s what that looks like in practice:

  1. Topic Selection: Topics are chosen based on what readers are actually looking for, real questions people ask about home decor, common styling challenges, and gaps in the existing content available online. Reader questions and search intent both play a role in what gets covered.
  2. Research: Before a single word is drafted, research is done. This includes reviewing trusted home decor publications, manufacturer documentation, hands-on experience with products and styling approaches, and established design principles. Where relevant, real-world testing informs what gets written.
  3. Drafting: The article takes shape with a clear structure in mind: an opening that gets to the point, body content that delivers on the promise of the headline, and a conclusion that gives the reader something to act on.
  4. Fact-Checking: Every factual claim in the draft is checked against credible sources before the article moves forward. This includes product details, measurements, material information, and any specific figures or statistics referenced.
  5. Editorial Review: The draft goes through a full editorial review by WhatmyDesign’s lead editor before it is considered ready to publish. This review covers accuracy, clarity, structure, tone, and whether the article actually delivers value to the reader.
  6. Formatting and Visuals: Once the content is approved, the article is formatted for readability. Images are sourced or created with proper attribution in mind, and the overall layout is checked for clarity on both desktop and mobile.
  7. Final Check and Publishing: A final read-through happens before publishing. If anything feels off, it goes back for revision. WhatmyDesign does not publish on a schedule that sacrifices quality for volume.

How Research Is Done Here

Research at WhatmyDesign goes beyond a quick web search. For home decor content, that means consulting established interior design publications, brand and manufacturer documentation, trusted trade sources, and drawing on hands-on experience with the products, techniques, and spaces being discussed.

Where a recommendation is made about a specific product or approach, it’s grounded in either direct testing, verified specifications, or both. WhatmyDesign doesn’t repeat things just because they’ve been repeated elsewhere. If a claim can’t be verified from a credible source, it doesn’t make it into the article.

Checking Sources and Verifying Information

Information published on WhatmyDesign is verified against more than one source wherever possible. Primary sources, official manufacturer documentation, recognized design authorities, and established publications are preferred over secondary summaries or unverified blog content.

If a source can’t be confirmed as credible and current, the information it contains isn’t used. This applies to product specifications, pricing references, material claims, and any statistics or figures cited in an article. Credibility of the source matters as much as the information itself.

Verifying Every Claim Before It Goes Live

Fact-checking is a fixed step in the process, not an optional one. Before any article is published on WhatmyDesign, the following are checked:

  • Product names, specifications, and material details
  • Numerical figures, measurements, and statistics
  • Dates and timelines referenced in the content
  • Quotes or attributed statements
  • Any time-sensitive information (prices, availability, brand details)

If a claim doesn’t hold up under verification, it gets removed or corrected before the article moves forward. There’s no publishing a “close enough” version and fixing it later.

What Every Published Article Meets

Before anything is published on WhatmyDesign, it meets a consistent set of standards:

  • A clear purpose: the article answers a specific question or delivers a specific value
  • An original angle or perspective, not a rewrite of content that already exists
  • Research and supporting evidence behind every recommendation
  • Accurate, verified information throughout
  • A structure that’s easy to follow
  • Images that are relevant, properly sourced, and attributed where required
  • A final editorial review sign-off

If an article doesn’t meet these standards, it doesn’t go live.

Who Creates the Content Here

WhatmyDesign’s content is created by someone who brings genuine hands-on experience with home decor, styling, and the real-world challenges of making a space work. The perspective behind every article comes from actual engagement with the niche, not surface-level familiarity.

This isn’t a site where articles are farmed out to writers with no connection to the subject. Every piece of content published here reflects real effort, real research, and real care for the reader.

How AI Tools Are Used in the Process

WhatmyDesign may use AI tools to assist with research, and to support quality, clarity, and readability during the editorial process. AI is not used to automate publishing or to produce low-effort content.

Every piece of content goes through human editorial review and fact-checking before it is published. That review step is not skipped, regardless of what tools were used at earlier stages of the process.

Standards Specific to Home Decor Content

Home decor sits in a space where personal taste and practical knowledge overlap, and WhatmyDesign takes both seriously. Recommendations about products, layouts, materials, or styling approaches are backed by hands-on testing, verified product information, or thorough research drawn from credible sources in the field.

Where personal experience shapes a recommendation, that’s made clear in the writing. Where a product or technique hasn’t been tested directly, the research behind it is. Readers deserve to know the difference, and WhatmyDesign makes that distinction.

Editorial Independence

Advertising relationships and editorial content are kept separate at WhatmyDesign. What gets recommended in an article is based on research, testing, and genuine usefulness to the reader, not on who is advertising or what commercial relationships exist at the time.

Sponsored content and affiliate partnerships do not influence which products, brands, or approaches are recommended in editorial articles. If a relationship with a brand exists, it’s disclosed clearly, but it doesn’t change what the content says.

Affiliate Links and Sponsored Content

WhatmyDesign may include affiliate links in some articles, meaning a small commission may be earned if a reader clicks a link and makes a purchase. This comes at no additional cost to the reader and does not affect the recommendations made.

Sponsored content, where it exists, is always clearly labeled so readers know the context. Affiliate and commercial relationships are disclosed in line with standard practice, and they do not change the editorial standards applied to any article.

Keeping Content Current

Home decor trends, product availability, and general information change over time. WhatmyDesign reviews evergreen content on a regular basis, typically every six to twelve months, to check that information is still accurate and useful.

For time-sensitive topics (product launches, trend pieces, specific availability information), updates happen faster when circumstances change. When a correction is needed, it’s made promptly and noted in the article where appropriate.

Errors, Corrections, and Reader Feedback

If something on WhatmyDesign is wrong, outdated, or unclear, readers are encouraged to say so. Feedback like that is taken seriously, not ignored. Valid corrections are made within 72 hours of being confirmed, and the article is updated accordingly.
